Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Testosterone – The Making of  A Man?

Sharp-witted Beatrice, one of Shakespeare’s strong female characters in “Much Ado About Nothing” opines, “He that hath a beard is more than a youth, and he that hath no beard is less than a man.” Her observation is, indeed, in keeping with the development of maleness as we know it. As a youth’s testosterone level increases, so do the visible characteristics of his maleness. All the things we normally think of – deepening voice, increase in body hair, development of or increase in lean muscle mass – are associated with increasing levels of testosterone during puberty and into manhood. Thus, Beatrice surmises, the ability to grow a beard equates to a robust dose of testosterone coursing through a man’s veins, while the inability to grow one doesn’t.

What if You Just Aren’t the Same As You Once Were?

When we’re fortunate enough to experience the passing of time, we may be hit with the realization that we just aren’t as robust or hearty as we were at the pinnacle of our youth, or even ten or twenty years ago. Our bodies have changed, and we may not have the vitality we once did. Although the process may not be as widely acknowledged as the changes that occur in women’s bodies, men also experience age-related hormonal changes that affect their overall well-being. For many, those changes impact their quality of life in a challenging way.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone

Decreasing testosterone levels in men occur much more gradually than hormonal changes do in women. Men experience a gradual decline in testosterone beginning as early as their twenties or thirties and it continues to decline throughout the rest of their lives. As their testosterone continues to decline, men may experience:

  • A decrease in libido
  • Depression
  • Loss of lean muscle mass
  • Erectile dysfunction (also known as ED)
  • Irritability
  • Fatigue

Fortunately, help is available to help restore your hormonal balance.

TRT Can Help

Decreasing testosterone levels can be improved through the use of testosterone replacement therapy or TRT. There are a variety of ways to administer TRT including:

  • Orally
  • Intranasally (squirted into the nose)
  • Via patches, gels, or creams
  • Through hormone replacement pellets (placed under the skin via a small incision)
  •  Injections
